About Us

The orchestra was formed in April 1990 by a group of friends with the object of giving young people, students, and the more mature musicians of all ages the chance to meet and play in an orchestral environment. It provides an opportunity for players of all standards, abilities and musical aspirations, to meet regularly and make music.

We have a nominal active membership of about 60, with an average weekly attendance of about 35, with all instruments of the symphony orchestra, plus a few  band instruments, represented.  We  don't put a limit on section numbers - all new players are welcome.  With a library of over 200 different pieces we are always able to find music to suit.
