Sturminster Newton Orchestra

Conductor: Katy Ashman

About Us

The Sturminster Newton Orchestra is a group of musicians of all standards and all ages who meet on Saturday mornings to play a variety of music: folk songs and dances; light classics; music from the shows; extracts from opera; the romantic classics and film music.

Our aims are to enjoy ourselves making music; to practise instrument technique;  to improve sight-reading and musicianship by playing together.

The Sturminster Newton Orchestra is truly open:  it doesn’t matter what age you are or what grade you have achieved.  There are no auditions and everyone is welcome.   Our only requirement is that you play in at least three rehearsals before playing at the music party.  Sadly, we are now the victim of our own success and because of limited room size we have been forced to take applications for a waiting list for all sections except violins.   Individuals who are on the waiting list will be included in orchestra communications.

Rehearsals take place every Saturday morning starting at 9.30am until 11.45 am at the Stour View Centre in Sturminster Newton.
